The film tells the story of a science expedition Organized by a powerful pharmaceutical
company, a scientific expedition is sent into the deep dark jungles of Borneo
to search for a rare blood-red orchid which may or may not unlock the secrets
of youth and immortality. This orchid blooms for three weeks every seven years
and contains a chemical that stops cells from dying.
The first movie was far much better and had a classic touch to it, and this
one is just another sequel which was made without considering whether it would
be a wise idea in the first place.
Now the team (Johnny Messner, Matthew Marsden, Morris Chestnut, Salli Richardson,
and Eugene Byrd) hires the crusty Bill Johnson (Johnny Messner), who will seemingly
do anything for a buck. He does not mind putting his life in danger and take
them to the river in the rainy season. To my disappointment at least I did not
see any big-name stars here (unlike the first movie) - the only face you may
recognize is that of Morris Chestnut from "The Brothers" and "Boyz
N the Hood."
The killer in the movie is computer-generated snakes which are simply horrifying
but fail to resemble the real things. It is not fun watching them they are a
work of worst work done by CGI critters.
When the team gets to the river the trouble reaches them in no time. In just
day or two they see snakes around them. It is the mating season for snakes and
they are everywhere you turn. The people on the boat are having problem and
an argument erupt which cause further problems.
The film pure focus is the horror of the snakes. It is extremely gore having
some horror sequences in the film. It is a perfect movie for those who want
to indulge into horror without being getting scared to death. Dwight H. Little
director of Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid has not shown anything
new or different. The acting of the characters is not at all impressive and
the villain of the movie (snakes) do not appear real at any point. The movie
gets exciting at the point when snakes attack humans on the boat at make them
their tasty meal.
