INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup red lentils (toor dal)
2 tablespoons of oil (vegetable, corn or olive oil)
1 medium size chopped onion
1 chopped tomato
2 finely chopped green chillies (hot pepper)
1/2 " piece of fresh ginger
2-3 cloves chopped garlic
Few leaves of fresh cilantro (coriander)
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
A pinch of asafoetida
salt to taste
METHOD
Boil the lentils with salt and turmeric powder in the pressure cooker for 3
whistles. Set it aside.
Take a pan and add some oil. Add ginger, garlic and chilies to it. Saute them
until garlic and ginger are light brown. Add onions and tomatoes, fry well.
Fry the mixture for a minute or two.
Add the mixture in the dal. Add some water if the dal is too thick. Then add
asfoetida.
At the end garnish it with cilantro leaves.
