This is the year on year growth rate of a particular asset. For instance if one says that a company has shown a growth rate of 10% CAGR it means that the company has grown as if every year there has been a 10% growth over the previous one. This is not so however in reality and the growth rates are different in different years, however on an average the CAGR is the number at which the company has grown.
