I really don't know mathematics in English, but i sure know a little maths in my language. There are in algebra some things called "groups" (i hope that's how they are called in English too) E.g. : Group Z10 where 1=11=21, 2=12 etc.
Z7 where 0=7=14, 1=8=15 and so on.
In Z4 we have the elements: 0, 1, 2, 3 And 0=4=8=12... 1=5=9=13 .. 2=6=10, 3=7=11 Therefore there are multiple answers to the question 5=? Like: 5=1=9=13=17... An infinity of answers :) It's just maths :)
