The most celebrated novelist of his day, his best known novels are
Waverley, The Bride of Lammermoor, Ivanhoe, and Rob Roy.
Waverley (1814)
The novel by Walter Scott begins in 1745 and follows the
experiences of Edward Waverley, an officer in the British Army who
is stationed in Scotland. Waverley becomes involved with two
women, Rose Bradley and Flora MacIvor as well as several
freebooters and Jacobites. Certain of his associations are
politically unwise and, eventually, he is accused falsely and
arrested for fomenting mutiny in his regiment.
