Dana, Richard Henry (1815-1882) American writer and lawyer, he went to
sea before law school to improve his health.
Two Years Before the Mast (1840) - Based on Dana's experiences as a sailor,
this classic narrative of the sea tells of the brutality of his ship's
captain. This work influenced public opinion and eventually led to legal
action against the captain.
