Sophocles (496-406 BC) - Ranked with Aeschylus and Euripides as one of the
greatest Greek dramatists, he is the most distinguished of the three. His
works remain the finest examples of the art of Greek drama. Comparatively
conservative, he searched for truth in the existing moral order.
Trachiniae or The Trachinian Women (430-420 BC) - A dramatization of
Heracles' (Hercules) marriage to Queen Deianeira. The Trachiniae tells
the story of Heracles' death.
