Roderick Hudson (1875) This novel, the first to be published in
book form, follows the tragic path of the young sculptor,
Roderick Hudson. The wealthy Roland Mallet offers his patronage
to Hudson and finances the artist's studies in Rome. Once in
Europe, the egocentric and emotionally-unstable Hudson, despite
Mallet's admonitions, is attracted to the mysterious Christian
Light. The story's settings also includes Florence and Switzerland.
