American-born Pulitzer Prize winning poet and playwright. Born in
Rockland, Maine, she attended Barnard and Vassar and later acted
with the Provencetown Players. Also published A Few Figs From
Thistles, The Harp Weaver and Other Poems, The Buck in the Snow and
Other Poems, Fatal Interview, Conversation at Midnight, Huntsman,
What Quarry?, Make Bright the Arrow and, in 1956, Collected Poems.
Along with several plays, she also wrote satirical sketches
(Distressing Dialogues) under the pen name of Nancy Boyd.
Renascence and Other Poems (1917)
Renascence and Other Poems is Edna St. Vincent Millay's first
published book. The title piece, which attracted national
attention, was first published in 1912 in the poetry anthology
called The Lyric Year. This collection of 23 poems and sonnets
includes The Suicide, Tavern, The Little Ghost, Three Song of
Shattering, Witch-Wife, The Dream, and When the Year Grows Old.
