Dickens, Charles (1812-1870) The most popular and perhaps greatest
English novelist and short-story writer, he drew on his experiences as a
poor child to produce extremely realistic stories.
The Pickwick Papers (1838) This humorous novel was originally published in
serial form under the pseudonym "Boz." The story centers around Mr. Samuel
Pickwick, the amiable and benevolent founder of the Pickwick Club, who
travels about with friends offering advice and guidance.
