Pascal, Blaise (1623-1662) - A French philosopher, scientist, and
mathematician, he was one of the founders of hydronamics and of the
mathematical theory of probability. He was also a profound philosophical
thinker devoted to the pursuit of truth.
Pensees (1660) - A fragmented collection of reflections on religion and
a testament of the author's faith. They state the view that man is a
helpless creature suspended between the great unknowns of birth and death.
