France, Anatole (1844-1924) - A French poet, novelist, and critic. The
most popular French writer at the turn of the century, he was awarded the
1921 Nobel Prize in literature.
Penguin Island (1908) - One of France's later works which deals satirically
with French history and the development of civilization. The novel tells
of an old Briton monk who sails to an island; his poor eyesight has him
baptizing penguins rather than people.
