Cherterton, G. K. (Gilbert Keith Chesterton) (1874-1936)
English critic, novelist, essayist, and poet. Born in London.
Early essays and articles published in various periodicals.
Published two books of poetry in 1900, plus studies of Browning
(1903), Dickens (1906) and R. L. Stevenson (1907). In 1908, he
published two works, Heretics and Orthodoxy and, in 1911, he
published his most popular work, The Innocence of Father Brown.
Chesterton became a Roman Catholic in 1922. He went on to write
biographies of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Thomas Aquinas.
Orthodoxy (1908) A serious work by Chesterton dealing with
religious beliefs and containing chapters such as The Paradox
of Christianity, The Eternal Revolution, and the Romance of Orthodoxy.
