Ariosto, Lodovico (1474-1533) - Italian poet who spent most of his life in
service to the House of Este. His poetry was popular in his day, but he is
best known for his enduring masterpiece, "Orlando Furioso," (Roland Mad).
Orlando Furioso (1532) - One of the most important works of early Italian
literature, this epic poem consists of a number of stories centering around
Orlando and other knights of Charlemagne. It was written as a continuation
of the unfinished and lesser-known "Orlando Innamorato," by Boiardo.
