Sophocles (496-406 BC) - Ranked with Aeschylus and Euripides as one of the
greatest Greek dramatists, he is the most distinguished of the three. His
works remain the finest examples of the art of Greek drama. Comparatively
conservative, he searched for truth in the existing moral order.
Oedipus the King (~429-~425 BC) - Also known as Oedipus Rex or Oedipus
Tyrannos, it is the most famous of the ancient Greek tragedies. A drama of
self-discovery, it remains the finest expression of the Oedipus myth.
