Twain, Mark (pen name of Samuel Clemens) (1835-1910) American humorist
whose pseudonym was adopted from his days as a Mississippi steamboat pilot,
"mark twain" meaning "two fathoms deep." He introduced colloquial speech
into American writing and was the most popular writer of his time.
My Watch (1903)
Written about 1870, My Watch was included in the 1903 collection,
Sketches New and Old. This comic "instructive little tale" begins
with an overzealous watch repairer who makes an unnecessary (and
disastrous) adjustment to the author's heretofore perfectly-
functioning watch.
