Cather, Willa (1873-1947)- American novelist who spent her youth among the
pioneers in Nebraska. Her high regard for the courageous pioneers led to her
increasing distaste for the modern world. She won a Pulitzer Prize in 1923.
My Antonia (1918)
Cather's novel about Bohemian immigrant farmers who settle on
Nebraska frontier prairie. The story centers around the difficult
life of Antonia Shimerda, a heroine forced to work as a farm servant.
