Congreve, William (1670-1729) - English dramatist who is generally
considered the master of the British comedy of manners. He was a fellow
student of Jonathan Swift at Trinity College in Dublin.
The Mourning Bride (1697) - Congreve's only tragic drama, it was written
in blank verse and is best remembered as the source of many commonly quoted
lines such as, "Music hath charms to soothe a savage breast."
