Leibniz, Gottfried Wilhelm (1646-1716) - German philosopher, historian,
mathematician, scientist, and diplomat who developed a philosophy of
rationalism which attempted to reconcile matter and spirit.
Monadology (1714) - Proposes that the divine order of the universe is
reflected in each of its parts or monads. Because each monad has a fixed
position in the universe, Leibniz argues that there is no such thing
as free will.
