Thoreau, Henry David (1817-1862) - American writer, transcendentalist, and
naturalist whose journal was the source of all his writings. Thoreau
published only two books during his lifetime but has since grown to be
regarded as an important literary figure.
Life without Principle (1863) - An essay that was originally delivered as
a speech, it is directed toward the common concern of getting a living. "If
getting a living is not inviting and glorious, then living is not."
