Tacitus, P. Cornelius (55-117) - Roman historian, politician, and orator who
enjoyed a high reputation during his lifetime. Much of Tacitus' works have
been handed down in fragmentary form, and his style is said to have been
dimmed through years of condensation.
Histories (96 AD) - One of Tacitus' chief works -- a complete account of
history during his own times from 68 or 69 AD to 96 AD. Of the twelve
original books, only four have survived in their entirety.
