An Essay on the Dramatic Character of Sir John Falstaff (1777)
Written in 1774 and published in 1777, Morgann presents what he
calls, "Some considerations on the whole character of Falstaff."
Contrary to popular opinion, Morgann maintains that Shakespeare's
Falstaff was not intended to be shown as a coward, but instead
argues that Falstaff is a courageous military character.
