Sophocles (496-406 BC) - Ranked with Aeschylus and Euripides as one of the
greatest Greek dramatists, he is the most distinguished of the three. His
works remain the finest examples of the art of Greek drama. Comparatively
conservative, he searched for truth in the existing moral order.
Electra (420-410 BC) - The legend of Electra, sister of Orestes and
daughter of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon, dramatized by each of the great
Greek dramatists. Sophocles makes Clytemnestra's murder seem inevitable.
