Epictetus (~50-~130) - A Greek Stoic philosopher and emancipated slave
who taught in Rome. None of his written works survive, but his pupil
Arrian preserved his doctrines in a manual.
Discourses (101) - Teaches that people should live life free from
unfulfilled desires, take only a small portion of what life has to offer,
and be calm in the face of death.
