"Apocrypha" (c. 458 BCE - c. AD 70) is a Greek word which means
"things hidden away" and refers to religious writings not
universally considered to be part of the sacred canon of
scripture. "Deuterocanonical" refers to a second layer of the
layer of the sacred canon. Most of these books were rejected by
the Jewish community of Palestine, yet were accepted by Greek-
speaking Alexandrian Jews and most Christian denominations.
