Genre: Children Stories

Gene Stratton Porter (born Geneva Grace Stratton) American author of sentimental novels for girls. Born in Wabash County, Indiana. Failed to finish high school. Married Charles D. Porter (1886). Works include: The Song of the Cardinal (1903), Freckles (1904), What I Have Done for the Birds and At the Foot of the Rainbow (both 1907), The Girl of the Limberlost (1909), Laddie (1913), Michael O'Halloran (1915), A Daughter of the Land (1918), The Firebird (1922), White Flag (1923), and Tales You Won't Believe (1925). At the Foot of the Rainbow (1907) Quite possibly the best of Porter's novels, the publisher's synopsis for At the Foot of the Rainbow reads: "Central Indiana furnishes the rural scene of a story whose characters- two men and a woman- constitute the modern-drama triangle. It is a tale of a heroic Scotchman's friendship for a dissipated Irishman who played the former false when entrusted with a message to the girl both loved."
