Verne, Jules (1828-1905) French novelist known as "the man who invented
the future." He created a unique blend of science and adventure in his very
popular and scientifically prophetic stories. A precursor of modern science
fiction, he influenced the work of H.G. Wells, among others.
Around to the Moon (1870) The conclusion of the Jules Verne
adventure that began in "From the Earth to the Moon". These two
novels were a great success in their time and sold 68,000
copies in book form alone.
