Tacitus, P. Cornelius (55-117) - Roman historian, politician, and orator who
enjoyed a high reputation during his lifetime. Much of Tacitus' works have
been handed down in fragmentary form, and his style is said to have been
dimmed through years of condensation.
Annals (109 AD) - One of Tacitus' chief works -- the history of Julian
emperors from the death of Augustus to the year 69 AD. Of perhaps eighteen
original books, only eight have survived in their entirety.
