Dickens, Charles(1812-1870) The most popular and perhaps greatest
English novelist and short-story writer, he drew on his experiences as a
poor child to produce extremely realistic stories.
A Christmas Carol (1843)
The first of five of Dickens' Christmas tales published each year
between 1843 and 1847. Dickens described these works as "a
whimsical sort of masque intended to awaken loving and forbearing
thoughts." The classic tale of the conversion of an old miser and
curmudgeon named Scrooge through visitations by the ghosts of
Christmas past, present, and future.
