Ugly Duckling must be crazy to make an album this good.
Now this is what i'm talking about. Finally a CD not full of obsenities and curses but just pure rap skills. No hard rappers or killer beats, just fun music from beginning to end. That's what makes this album last long after the other's have faded, it's really cool. Andy and Dizzy have charisma that goes way beyond their years, and einstein's beats are crazy to the point that you would buy the instrumental just to rhyme over the beats. I can't believe the things they talk about, they go from talking about ordering shakes, to potty mouths, to being the opening act that nobody wants to see. They have a wonderful sense of humor and the listener will really dig the whole theme of running a fast food restauraunt, Duckling makes it work. Buy this CD to see what i'm talking about.
Bringing back the sound
This album is perfect pure genius. This is what hip-hop used to be about. When rap and hip-hop was about the rap not the rapper. Even before De La Soul, back to Grandmaster Flash days. "Have you ever been over a friend's house to eat and the food just ain't no good?" This album is easily the most innovative, creative, successful album I've heard in years. Listen to it. Listen to the flow and the beats. Listen to the rhymes. Don't talk about how "goofy" or "funny" UD is. Pay attention to how smart and skilled UD is. One complaint. Where's the props for the album that made this album possible; De La Soul is Dead? Biddies in the BK Lounge?
a call back to the golden age.
As most all else who have reviewed this have said, a hark back to the old days, with beats made from vinyls and not every other word needs to be bleeped. Definate influences of Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jurassic 5 and the like, and an age where hiphop had that air of freshness to it. The "meatshake" theme does get a little tired after a couple of listens, but the rest of the material more than makes up for this... The tracks inbetween the theme-based songs are not filler, but rather UD's look at modern music, basically calling it uninventive, needlessly profane and macho. Really, I know the lack of offcolor language will likely get this album branded as "pop", or somehow weak, but these guys put together one of the best hiphop albums in the past ten years or so. The songs like "Pass It On" really show the influence of the kindof spontaneous nonsense rhyming that hiphop started with ("save the weight loss, great for kate moss, more potatoes for me, pass the steak sauce"). Young Einstien has a great ability to create a catchy beat, something that will hold your attention, but not distract from the rhymes... favorite songs: "I Wanna Go Home", and "La Revolucion".
I Need A Vacation...
This album is straight up feel-good music, no matter how you cut it. The album kicks off with Opening Act, which explains Ugly Duckling's position in the concert world. Haha, if you heard the track, you know what I'm talking about. It moves on to Turn It Up, which is one of the best on the album. This is one of the few CDs that gets better later on, with tracks such as Potty Mouth and Pass It On. Young Einstein really shines on this one, even more than Journey To Anywhere. The album is not perfect, though. I just can't seem to get into Mr. Tough Guy, and I'm back and forth on Energy Drink. Also, the whole Meat Shake theme can get a little stale after multiple listens. For the love of god, though, don't let this turn you off from picking this one up. You'll be quite pleased, if I may so myself. Goodnight now...
taste it!!!!
one part d12, one part bizarre, one part south park, one part looney tunes, one part everything on nickelodeon...aw hell let's just dump everything stupid ever known to mankind. and then you get ugly ducking's "taste the secret" believe me, this album is retarded. it's stupid, it's insane. this is one for the potheads. these are a couple of punk-rock era kids who have watched bill and ted one too many times. this album reminds me of those 80's films about teenagers. it's that stupid. but it's stupid funny. they can rap, they can rhyme, they can sing...HEY THEY CAN DO IT ALL!!! try the meat shake, it's awesome.
