Street Cinema Reviews
Creative, Innovative, and Unique
I really like rap music. However, I don't like guys talking about money and [...]and benz's. Sporty Theivs tell a story in each song. I had bought this CD for one song, and had felt guilty about it until I heard the rest. I absolutley love the sounds they mix and the beats they add to them. This is a must for people who love GOOD rap.
Excellent CD....
In an era of rap where talking about how many girls you had, the many cars and mansions you have and all that other [stuff], it is nice to find some albums that don't go there. Street Cinema is one of them. I first heard of them when I was watching BET and Cheapskate came on...I loved the video and listened out for more of their work...and of course when the reponse to TLC's No Scrubs came out, I was hooked. I liked the entire album, especially the skits, but the track that I love the most is Propose A Toast. It is a track that makes me feel the pain every time I hear it. I don't know if you know this... My advice? Don't sleep on this. It is worth the buy.
Seriously Underrated
This is a Cd that has totally been neglected and under-appreciated. Other than their catchy come backs (to TLC and
Destiny's child), they are relatively unknown . Yet their Albumn is exquisite , while not the best of rhyming their ability to carry hooks and the amazing background noises (amazing when you pump it up on a nice system in a ride (even thou DMV does not let me drive one currently)) make this Cd a rap masterpiece.
BTW this cd came out wayyyy be4 "no pigeons" was released and im proud to say i have 2 copies of them without track 16 (lost it once)
most under-rated group
sporty theivz are severely under-rated! this cats can flip verses like eminem did burgers before becoming a star! they are all equally talented(and lots of it). unlike other groups or rappers with bigger names that rap about guns and killing- they keep it real and mostly rap about pimping them hos! they have a gift for story telling. the only let down is the need for a "dre" or timbaland. most of the beats are proper- though. lyrically- they are original and top notch. i swear to you- you won't be dissapionted!
one hit wonders
i bought this lp 4 no pigeonz xpectin there to be otha good stuff on here. but o was i in 4 a surprise. it was simply horrible.cheapskate was the only othere song i could manage to listen to. sporty thievs are not lyricists and cannot pick beatz whatsoever. i'll admitit maybe this review is a bit harsh but they trul deserveit. they're a disgrace to rap. they remind me of the queer weird al yankovic jockin off otha songs. do urself a favor. DON'T BUY THIS TRASH AND IF U DO U'LL REGRET IT!
Let's face it: You're buying this for the bonus track "No Pigeons," the craftily clever reply to TLC's "No Scrubs." On "No Pigeons" the Thievz invert TLC's insult, taking disingenuous women to task. In an odd twist, though, the trio prove themselves more than one-hit wonders. Criminally underappreciated on its initial release in 1998,
Street Cinema
is a highly engaging collection of generally somber tales of the hustler's life. But, rather than glamorize the game and luxuriate in its supposed splendor, the Thievz play the drones. "Hitmen" tells a story of the underworld's least forgiving profession. In "Fedz," the Thievz get caught on a drug rap, while on "Angel," pain and loss supersede glitz.
Street Cinema
isn't wholly without humor--"Cheapskate" treads on pigeons before TLC ever got into the studio, while the "Freeks" will make you blush from their sexual impropriety. Though the Thievz tell the freaky tales well, it's their underdog demeanor that invests this album with truth, danger, and just a bit of humanity.
