Slowly We Rot Reviews

A death metal classic
This was a great album, the only thing that surprised me was that in addition to the slower brooding songs I also got some frenetic blasts that were on the edge of early grindcore. Anyway, this is a pretty respectible effort in terms of technicallity, and its also got that great early death metal vibe of midnight blackness and brooding slowly building power. A high point are John Tardy's vocals which are great, up there with Chuck Schuldiner's on Leprosy, Spiritual Healing, and Human. I don't think this album sounds dated either, I think newer death metal either doesn't measure up or sucks.

Classic early death-metal
This is Obituary's debut, and it has every attribute of early death-metal records. What works favourably in this record, is it's brutality and great growling vocals. Remeber, this is 80s' recording, not contemporary stuff!

But sadly, this type of music hasn't aged well, partly because few years later the scene was flooded with plenty of brutal bands sounding mostly the same.
And personally I prefer Obituary's 2 succeeding record, "Cause of Death" and "The End Complete" where they play more of the same, but matured somewhat.

OBITUARY!
Awsome CD,just AWSOME,old school Death Metal, the way it was meant to be,not that Death/Grind, KILLER VOCALS, KILLER DRUMS, KILLER RIFFS, also check all other Obituary albums, they all rule...

Pretty awsome first album
i realy enjoy listining to "obituary". They are difirent from many death metal bands. This is a must have if your into fast, dark and agressive death metal. Buy it !

Obiturized
Hail, friends! What we've got here is a full-on spew of classic death metal. Note the "classic" part, folks, because this isn't Dimmu Borgir or Cannibal Corpse. It's more like Celtic Frost... In fact, Obituary sounds a LOT like Celtic Frost, especially their vocalist. And if you're not familiar with Celtic Frost, you could liken them to Slayer's South of Heaven days, only slower, more brooding. And if you're not familiar with Slayer, you're [up the creek without a paddle].

Sorry.

The remastered edition sounds really good, but I can't compare it to the old version because I think I was like three when it was released. Anyway, even on my dated-yet-cool CD player, you can hear the growls in stereo, lots of bass, blah, blah, blah...

Go get it!
