silencer Reviews

Become a Zed junkie, yup, it's addictive.
I have both editions of Silencer, and play them constantly. Zed have been my favourite band for almost four years now. They're huge here in NZ, and about to get even bigger with a new album out on October 24th (2003). You have to listen to Silencer, it's the best album I've ever heard. All their songs are different, and the entire sound of their music is so unique. My favourite songs are Goodman, In my mind and S.P.S. The lyrics in all of their songs are so cleverly written, sorry to sound sappy, but they sound like poetry. But they're sung in such a rocky way, love it. Some of the songs are about the typical subject of love, but the lyrics are so clever, and so different. The bonus disk has live versions of their biggest songs, and some remixes. Plus there's two great songs not featured on the original Silencer; Cavalier and Leaving me. The song Americans are more likely to have heard is Starlight, which was actually written by Weezer. In my opinion this song is not as good as the songs by Zed on the Silencer album, and don't judge them by that song because it's so not what Zed are about. Everyone should have a copy of Silencer, whether they're into pop music or rock, because it caters for all tastes. Silencer went triple platinum in NZ, which means that almost 1/3 of NZ people have the album in their CD rack!!! Buy the album today, and become part of the statistic!!! http://www.geocities.com/andy_addict/

Awsome cd!
I love this cd! New Zealand rock band Zed are a four piece band from Christchurch, New Zealand. Andy Lynch (The blonde guy) Is from Auckland though! This cd is great! The kiwi's really know how to make music!

I'll make a view on my fave tracks from the cd below!

1. Renegade fighter. This song is awsome it is there most hard rock song! The lyrics are great! "I'm a lover, i'm a winner, i'm a fighter gonna set your soul on fire" Me and my older brother always blare this song on the highway when were in his car. it's great!

2. Drivers side. This is the first song I heard from Zed. It's also the first song that got me addicted to Zed. once again great lyrics. Nathan starts off with "Baby" and it echo's into a awsome rock song with an addictive beat. My fave on the album!

3. come on down. This is a more mellow tune. Another great tune.

5. Glorafilia. This is another one of my faves! great lyrics again! with a nice melodic mellow beat! This song is actually about a store that Ben's Grandmother worked at! nice song!

7. Oh! Daisy. This song is probably my 2nd fave on the cd! I just love it! Nathan shouts " And what do you expect from someone who was named after a cow oh yeah, go figure I won't get an answer from someone who is named after a flower,go figure" it has a great guitar solo in the midle of the song!

8. Don't you wish. I like this song alot. It is a more mellow acoustic sounding song!

10. S.P.S. This song is a deep song! it starts off mellow, then it turns into an awsome rock song!

11. I'm cold. Another great tune!

13. calling again. This is another one of my faves! It has a great beat and a powerful message!

9. In my mind. I love this song sooo much!

I highly recommend buying this cd! This Kiwi rock band is great!!

One of the most brilliant talents from New Zealand
One of the best acts from New Zealand. This album is absolutely brilliant. Also check out their new album "This Little Empire". Their new album is fantastic especially the remake of the song "Don't Worry Baby" - I think their version is better than the original.

Kiwi talent...or something more sinister?
Ask anyone from New Zealand about Zed and they may deny their existence. To put it simply, Zed is a band that many Kiwis do not like to admit comes from our fair green shores. Because of their reliance on dark brooding imagery, they are followed by rumors of Misoginy, Onanism, drug use, satanism and neo nazism. All of which make New Zealand music listeners cautious to admit to being a Zed fan.

Listening to the mysterious and controversial lyrics of this album makes one believe that there may be some truth to the rumors.

Renegade Fighter - Here the lead singer Nathan belts out opening track, a ballad that screams his belief in Anarachy.

Driver's side - Following the furious opening track, this song is a brilliant example of Nathan's rap talent. He raps away to the phat beats about drive by shootings in South Auckland, which he enjoys to parktake in every second saturday night.

Come on dowm - Being a family site, this song really can't be explained. Simply it is about the band's devotion to "Tipping the velvet"

He's sad - A song mocking the NZ association S.A.D (Students Against Drugs) This is the song that caused the rumors of the band's all night ventures into Absinthe mixed with Russian vodka.

Glorifilia - A song about the band's first ever groupie. A hairy behemoth whom they dubbed 'Gorilla Glorifilia' Sad to say she passed away.

Unseen - A song about Nathan's love of hide and seek. Maybe it is allegorical? You decide!

Oh! Daisy - Daisy was a K road worker in Auckland.

In my mind - One night the band downed the fluid of Amazonian Cane toads and went on a mystical journey through Victorian London, only to awake six days later in a local police cell and realising it was, yes, "in my mind".

S.P.S - Stands for "Speed, Pure Speed" Personally this song should never have made it onto the album and I'm surprised at NZ's censorship standards.

I'm Cold - A song about going Cold Turkey.

Good Man - Despite the bizarre rumors, the band seem to be devotees of the Hindu Godess Kali, and make ritual sacrifices to her altar. Or so the song seems to tell us.

Caling Again - One of the band members got a withstraining order for continually calling up their ex girlfriend and breathing heavily down the phone. This final track is a beautiful, if not haunting poem dedicated to that time in their life.

So all in all, are Zed as bad as the media has made them out to be? Rememember, such ideas are normally started by frustrated talentless musicians looking for a way to get back at those who have success or just sarcastic people with a spot of good ol' kiwi humor. Listen to this album without a biased opinion and you decide!

Cool
Cool stuff, really enyoy this CD. Still in my CD player after 3 months.
