Shades Of Purple Reviews

Beautiful music to your ears!
This is a great CD, not only because the two girls have great beautiful voices, but the songs are so pretty to listen to. If you like love songs or pop songs you will definitely like this CD. The strong songs are "Don't say you love me" because it is upbeat and fun to listen to. "Mirror Mirror" will have you singing after a couple times. I really like "Pretty Boy" because it can be for any girl who is currently in love with a guy and it's just one of those songs you love to listen to when you have a crush on someone. "Dear Diary" is nice and easy listening type of music. The whole CD is very good for a first. I reccommend it to all pop lovers. It's great to listen to at night when you are relaxing. The songs are great, voices are great and not trying hard at all, and these are tunes you will listen to for a long time.

After a little wear and tear, it still sounds great!
I bought this album the week it came out and (anonymously) reviewed it here the very same day(If you'd like to know, it's the one that begins "Real talent that surpasses that of their teen counterparts"). I'm going to do it again, but this is less knee jerk than my first one because I'm much more familiar wit the songs now. So here's a neater song-by-song review

1. Don't Say You Love Me: Since first hearing it nearly a year ago the message still rings true and so do the lyrics, which can still get stuck in my head.

2. The Day You Went Away: This is still one of the best songs on the cd. This is one of the deepest songs on the cd and the music is probaly the best.

3. Girl in Your Dreams: Marion wrote this one by herself at the tender age of thirteen. You have to hand it to her for the effort. The song itself doesn't dissapoint me.

4. Mirror, Mirror: The title may be one of society's biggest cliches but the song itself is great. It wasn't written by them but the passion they sing with proves they could improve upon any song by the likes of britney, christina et al.

5. Pretty Boy: At first I didn't get it but with each time i heard it the song became more tolreable. The song is still too soft and slow for my liking but it is easier to listen to.

6. Give a Little Love: I still love the lyrics but this was not meant for their voices, which sound too stilted and stylized in the beginning. It's one of the few places where it sounds as if the producers were telling them to do the "Britney Spears thing". The end makes up for it, which is incredibly well timed and sounds right(How did they come up with such a great idea?)

7. Everything You Do: It's still the same great song but upon a closer listening, the claps get very annoying. They should have been left out. This song sounds more like a jam session where Marit and Marion were just ad libbing.

8. Don't Mess Wtih My Love: the message was great but the song itself is somewhat weak lyrically, which can be attributed to their youth.

9. Dear Diary: This song is more tolerable with more listening. I have just one gripe, who is the guy singing in the background, does he know how stupid he sounds, and can you take him out?

10. Do You Know What You Want: It's one heck of a song but Full Force should have stayed out of the singing and whatever is going on back there.

11. Smiling Face: Still makes my ears happy and there's nothing wrong with it. It gets better every time.

12. Our Song: The chorus has bee gees inflections and the telephone is something only teen pop princesses would do but the lyrics are otherwise strong and so is the music.

13. Why: This is a simple song, likeable but it seems as if there was a lack of interest in it.

With the passing of the months the cd is still in my boombox, means it's still a great cd. Marit and Marion should still be around to please us with their music. The singing is somewhat inconsistent, but as their voices mature, the infantile inflection should dissapear. Underneath they have strong powerful voices, they need just a little time. So be patient and await a sophomore album in the future.

Refreshingly different
I bought this CD after having the great fortune of listening to 4 songs from the upcoming Marion Raven CD. I had never heard of M2M before, but liked the 4 Raven songs enough to buy the CD. On the first spin I didn't think to much of it, the girls voices sounding so little girlie and not at all like the Raven songs. After a few more spins though I love them. Their vocies fit very well with the music which is not the typical over produced bubblegum teen music that there is way too much of these days. The editorial review says arguably more talented than Britney and Christina put together, but I don't know who would argue with that, certainly not me. There is something so pure, sweet, innocent and honest about the songs, listening to them is like a breath of fresh mountain air. Both girls have excellent voices which harmonize very well together. The tunes are irresistable with some very catchy choruses that will stick with you and have you listening to them over and over in your head. There is not any song on the disc that I don't like, which is a rare thing for me. If you want a refreshing change from the rest of what's out there out there give it a try, you'll be glad you did.

M2M has real talent
I bought this CD because I heard M2M's song, "Mirror, Mirror", and fell in love! I was even more impressed when I discovered they wrote their own lyrics and played their own instruments. Though some of the songs I could do without, these girls did a really good job on this effort overall. Here's what I think of each of the songs.
Don't Say You love Me: I love the chorus to this one! A catchy, up-tempo song.
The Day You Went Away: A touching ballad. I love the melody on this one!
Girl In Your Dreams: Sweet ballad, but bordering on nauseating.
Mirror, Mirror: Awesome song; very original concept.
Pretty Boy: Crossing all borders into the nauseating zone! Seriously, this is one to skip if you can't stomach preteen pop ballads.
Give A Little Love: Great song that makes up for the one before it! Again, I love the chorus, and the way the beat changes in it.
Everything You Do: Good beat. The lyrics in the chorus are a bit on the lame side, but not enough to ruin the effect of the song.
Don't Mess With My Love: Great song about a scumbag friend! A lot of people can probably relate.
Dear Diary: I don't really like this one too much. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's not my favorite.
Do You Know What You Want?: Great beat! This is a dance song.
Smiling face: another contagious melody!
Our song: My absolute favorite! A beautiful ballad switching smoothly between major and minor keys.
Why?: Another sweet ballad, but thankfully not sickeningly so.
So, if you like bubblegum pop, you'd probably love this!

definitely the best and very worth the money, i love every single song on this cd, it was great. the sad part is M2M is split up now, hopefully they will change their mind sigh..
Having already won a place in the hearts of American audiences with "Don't Say You Love Me" from the first Pokémon feature film, Norwegian duo M2M make impossibly sweet pop of the pubescent sort. Think '80s Debbie Gibson and current teen-beat towheaded brother group Hanson. More wholesome than Britney or Christina (and arguably more talented than both put together), M2M sport stylings akin to girl-pop top bananas TLC. Endearingly, Marit and Marion's Shades of Purple is a soundtrack for deliriously crushed-out teens right here, right now. The airwaves are ripe and ready for this comely twosome, whose delightful "Don't Say You Love Me" and "Mirror Mirror" are hot tickets to blissful wonder in 2000. The harmonies are tight, the hooks fresh and light, and these songs simply sound great pouring out of a car full of twinkly young girls with every hope for a bright, shiny day. --Paige La Grone
