Very romantic, sensual, spiritual CD. IT IS WONDERFUL !.
On this album R.Kelly proves his power of write, arrange and perfom better than ever.its that in this one contains more romantic R&B songs and less hip-hop. He also uses almost all the Instruments in this one. My favorites tracks are: HUMP BOUNCE(SMOOTH PARTY UP SONG), NOT GONNA HOLD (ABOUT RELANTIONSHIP),
YOU REMIND ME OF SOMETHING(RELAXING,SEXUAL AND HOT), STEP IN MY
ROOM(GREAT SWEET BALLAD),DOWN LOW(GREAT SLOW JAM duet with RONALD ISLEY),I CANT SLEEP BABY(THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TRACK ON THE ALBUM),THANK GOD IS FRIDAY (DANCE CLUB MUSIC)AND RELIGIOUS LOVE (VERY SPIRITUAL LOVING SONG). No one in the music Industry can`t touch R.Kelly;he has a phenomenon gift to create great music for lovers. I think this is one of the Best R&B albums ever made ( of course with the exception of HIS SLAMMIN JAMMIN CLASSIC TP-2.COM (12 PLAY TWO) and his `98 album R.)because have smooth grooves, relaxing hot slow jams and sensual mid-tempo ballads. My favorites songs are: HUMP BOUNCE,YOU REMIND ME OF SOMETHING, STEP IN MY ROOM, BABY, BABY,BABY, DOWN LOW, I CAN`T SLEEP BABY, LOVE IS ON THE WAY, RELIGIOUS LOVE, TEMPO SLOW AND TRADE IN MY LIFE. THIS FABOLOUS ALBUM GOES FOR ME LIKE A CLASSIC SO GO AND BUY IT NOW...!

My top songs are: "tempo slow","you remind me","trade in my life", "thank god its friday","down low","not gonna hold on", & the list wouldn't stop.Every song is just so smooth & Kel just makes me feel good to be from Chicago. On these tracks he takes love making to a whole new level, so what song should you play 2 set the mood?"Tempo slow" is the best 2 me. I don't care what nobody says, we gone hold Kel down til' the end, ain't no stoppin' the Pied Piper!!
B Albums better doned...R. is the King !..
R. Kelly's 1995 self titled album is a classic R&B album. It's an album that all music fans must have. R.kelly is the best R&B artist ever. he released of 7 albums, each one I would give a 5 star rating, and who ever wouldn't, is crazy. But this is his album I would consider his best album. It has 16 of his greatest tracks ever, including his classic hit "Down Low" and other great songs like "Thank God It's Friday" and "Hump Bounce" Cop this album, you can't have a music collection without it.
get this disc!!!
Now before I got this album (JUST RECENTLY, don't laugh! LOL), I had thought "The Chocolate Factory" or "TP-2.Com" was Rrah's best album but after much researching this fabulous 16-track set, I have come to the conclusion that the "R. Kelly" album from 1995 is the man's BEST album and it is surely a MASTERPIECE!Before I go any further, need I say more that Kells' "The Sermon" intro is probably THE greatest intro/interlude ever done in music. It's a church sermon going on for more than 3 minutes and Kells is pretty much preaching from his soul. Some lines, though, are really funny, like "Even the Statue of Liberty wants to bump & grind!" LOL! But I understand what he means. ANYWAY...
"Hump Bounce", "Not Gonna Hold On", and "Love Is On The Way" is some of the best smoothed-out R&B jams to play around while "(You to be) Happy", which features a great lyrical and floetic rap vibe from the late Christopher Wallace, a/k/a the Notorious B.I.G., has that pimpish R&B/hip-hop vibe that's just so funky.
"You Remind Me Of Something" is secondary to none even though the sistas may have problems about what Kells is saying, LOL, and "Down Low" with the legendary Ronald "Mr. Biggs" Isley of the Isley Brothers (with Ernie providing guitar) is a legendary classic. While "Step In My Room", "Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby" and "Tempo Slow" is some of the best love-making R&B music this side of Barry White AND Marvin Gaye at the same time.
Meanwhile "I Can't Sleep (If I)" is so dramatic and soulful it moves me to tears whenever I sing it. He hits u deep in the heart where it hits the most. "Thank God It's Friday" is the grandfather to all the stepping songs Kells would do later with "Step In The Name of Love" and "Happy People". In fact this is when I think people were starting to refer to him as the younger version of Marvin Gaye with this album. I only wish "Heaven If U Hear Me" and the spoken word/singing testimonial, almost poetic interlude, "As I Look Into My Life" could've been made into songs.
And of course "Religious Love" and "Trade In My Life" are two of the BEST songs R. Kelly did in R&B and gospel simultaneously.
So I can understand why people are considering THIS album to be the ultimate masterpiece! It's not as ambitious as "R", not as playful as "Born Into the '90s", not as raunchy as "12 Play" and not so hip-hop like "TP-2.Com" was. In fact, "R. Kelly" and "Chocolate Factory" (along with "Loveland") are possibly the BEST albums Rob has ever done. I can possibly consider this Kelly's greatest album of all time but maybe the "Happy People/U Saved Me" album will convince me somehow.
The "R. Kelly" album produces some of the best R&B, pop, soul and gospel off one album and it's easy why this album can be considered one of the Top 5 BEST albums of the '90s. Also underrated compared to other albums, so that's another reason I love it, I guess.
I give this album not only 5 stars plus, but also an A+ rating on originality and masterwork. (((THUMBS UP)))
R. Kelly's third album indicates that he's got the range and the staying power of an R&B great. More importantly, it's the album where the libidinous stage persona of R. and his creator Robert finally come together, offering a glimpse of the man behind the libido. Kelly plays almost every instrument on the 16 tracks himself, delivering subtle variations of his laid-back rhythm and gently pulsing bass with lush walls of sound constructed from synthesized strings, keyboards and marimbas. At first listen, the melodies seem lazy and indistinct, but the hooks are sly and insidious, and they work their way into your subconscious. Kelly's voice is what keeps you coming back until they register. A sweet and supple instrument, it caresses the curves in the arrangements, stretching from a throaty whisper to an croon to a magnificent soaring wail. He's also made strides beyond the more misogynous impulses of the earlier records. Predecessors from Marvin Gaye to Prince have believed that there's nothing more spiritual than really great sex, and R. Kelly is makeout music that ranks with the very best. --Jim DeRogatis
