A Great Follow-Up To Their Self-Titled Album, Very Unfocused
This 2002 release, Pandemonium, was not what some fans expected from B2K. The group already released a great effort earlier that year, but Pandemonium! showed a more matured and improved version of the group. It has a lot of better songs than the first album, but the whole album itself doesn't reach the same level as their self-titled album. In my opinion, their self-titled album was where B2K was more focused on their music. The hits, "Bump, Bump, Bump", "One Kiss", "Girlfriend", and "What A Girl Wants" are probably the best one here. The songs are enjoyable, but some of the songs are too wild. Take a listen to that track, "Bump That". The song sounds messy and uneven at the same time. Omarion is at his best on that song. One thing this album has a lot of is ballads and slow jams. Two of the best ones on here is "Everything" and "Would You Be Here". One of my favorites is "Sleepin'", which is a sexy, smooth, and catchy ballad. Another gem is called "The Other Guy", which is another slow jam that has B2K singing smooth as ever. Pandemonium! is where B2K show off their best vocal abilities, just like the first album. In a negative way, they sound a little unfocused. The Pandemonium! project is a great effort, though. The special edition version has a dvd included. The dvd only has one video, which is "Bump, Bump, Bump". It also has some bonus material which contains the photo shoot for the album, a discography and videography, and a TV spot for the Pandemonium! album. The dvd has a behind the scenes feature with the group in the recording studio. The special edition CD has 4 new tracks with a special remix of "Girlfriend". With the CD, you can access the internet and log on to www.b2klovesyou.com to unlock some other special features. The special edition CD also has a tattoo. The special edition is way better than the original version. Overall, Pandemonium! is great throughout all of the flaws. Buy it because it is a satisfying effort. Also, listen to "What You Get", which is a hidden track. The song is hot.
B2K may live to regret their name--an acronym for Boys For 2000--as they age. Especially since they've taken great pains to try to convince listeners how much they've grown up on Pandemonium!, their second disc in less than nine months. To that effort, the underage musicians studded the disc with enough sexual innuendo to make even R. Kelly. In fact, the Los Angeles quartet engaged the services of the beleaguered rap impresario to write, produce, and arrange "Bump, Bump, Bump," a rather randy track that kicks off the disc featuring P. Diddy's cheeky rap about his utter appreciation of the female anatomy. And the escapades don't stop there, the bittersweet "Sleepin'" finds B2K apologizing to an erstwhile girlfriend for catting around, "You Can Get It," shows them in hot pursuit of another man's women, while "Tease" finds them pouting over an unconsummated encounter. But just when you're about to write them off as unrepentant hound dogs the pendulum swings, and B2K drop the swagger and bravado to deliver the sweet valentines of "My Everything," and the wistful innocence and regret of "One Kiss," so like the yearning ballads that made fans swoon for the band in the first place. --Jaan Uhelszki
