One of the Best CDs ever!!!
The first song I heard from Yellowcard was "Roughdraft." It just caught my attention when somebody was playing it in class one day a couple years ago...I was hooked I had to find out more about this band...By the way this song was added on to the rereleased version of this CD...I would strongly suggest picking up that version because you havent heard Yellowcard till you have heard "Roughtdraft"...anywho...I finally found this CD...It is insanely awesome...I was blown away by how much I loved every song on the CD...As a matter of fact, if they allowed a 6 start rating, this CD would have it...I bought their most recent "Ocean Avenue" and it was not really all that great...If you are having a hard time deciding which CD you would rather purchase, I will help you out....GET THIS CD NOW!!!! make sure it is the enhanced version....the standout songs(besides roughdraft) would be "October Nights"(my fav), "Something of Value"(listen for the awesome violin in this one), and "For Pete's Sake"(very catchy)....I could probably list all of the songs on the standout list but those are some great ones to check out....It sucks that they are becoming known for the new CD...I wish people would put more out about this one...tell all your friends about this one
Ingenuity At Its Best
Nothing makes me happier than seeing bands try new things and succeed admirably. Yellowcard is one such band. While the time-tested formula for a band is vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, they've decided to add something else: a violin. And rather than try to be a gimmick band and base their music around the violin, they've done an amazing job of blending it in with the rest of the music. On most of the songs, you can't even tell it's there unless you're specifically looking for it. The presense of a violin alone makes them worthy of praise, but then you get into it, and you realize that Yellowcard has some incredible lyrics to go along with it. From lovestruck pop-punk songs such as "October Nights" and bouncy tunes like "Drifting" to acoustic ballads like "Something of Value" and "Cigarette", the lyrics are both poignant and easy to relate to. As the singer croons "All that I wanted to hear from you, something of value, but something untrue." on "Something of Value", you can't help but be reminded of long-lost loves that fed you a steady diet of false promises and lies. This quality makes this one of the best cd's I've ever bought. Highly recommended.

This album boasts some of my favorite yellowcard songs, like "Sureshot" and "October Nights." It's a little more punk than the well-polished pop-punk of "Ocean Avenue" but still very catchy for those of us with mainstream ears. HOWEVER-if you spend any time on their website, you'll learn that "Rough Draft" is probably the most popular favorite song of Yellowcard fans and you have to buy the enhanced version to get it!
good ... but ENHANCED is better
Before you read anything else, I should warn you: buy the ENHANCED version of this CD so that you can get extra tracks!!! It's well worth it!!! Now that I've said that, as a devoted fan of Yellowcard, this HAS to be my favorite album. Although 'Ocean Avenue' proves the boys' talent to have matured over the years, 'One for the Kids' gives the most eclectic mix. I love the entire album through - from the sugar-high feel of 'Star Struck' to the heart-tugging emo-ness of 'Cigarette.' The lyrics, riffs, melodies - EVERYTHING about this album is amazing. I'm not going to even get into discussing how unique this band is because I'm sure that you've heard it all before. All I'm going to say is that they are truly talented and the best thing to EVER have come out of Jacksonville - dare I say even better than Skynyrd! And as a dirty south baby - born and raised - I like to think I know what I'm talking about!!!

I first started listening to this band when everyone at school started raving. Yellowcard is awesome and they remind me a lot of the Distorted Penguins. If you like this album, go find the Penguin's album Magic.
