Outstanding Album
Fear Factory's Obsolete is an excellent album. It is so very aggressive, but there are also moments that show that the guys in Fear Factory want to be respected as being great songwriters. The ninth track, "Resurection" shows that they have the ability to write some really great, powerful music. Burton C.Bell's vocals are unbelievable...man, they go from growling to almost gothic singing, great. Dino Cazares' guitar playing is heavy as hell. Christian Wolbers' bass is excellent...and Raymond Hererra's drumming...can be summed up in word word...UNBELIEVABLE.Listen to "Hi Tech Hate" or "Securitron" and you will witness tha power of FEAR FACTORY. I met Burton Bell and Dino and they were really cool guys, buy this cd. The new one, Digimortal is really good, but just not as powerful as this cd. This is the best metal cd I've ever heard. Buy this. Buy this now. Listen to it really loud on a really good sounding stereo. See them live, they're incredible.
F@#$KING AMAZING!
The first song I ever heard by Fear Factory was on the Mortal Kombat Soundtrack, it was called "Zero Signal." I liked it but I didn't think of it too much (at the time I was too busy listening to the "Reptile" theme by Traci Lords), nevertheless, I didn't mind listening to it when I did. However, it was the next song I heard by them that's actually on this cd "Resurrection," that I actually thought about buying the cd, which I eventually did. It's definitely one of my heaviest albums. These guys are so damn talented, especially the drummer. They come up with some of the heaviest riffs I've ever heard. And what's surprising is that this album only has two cuss words in it, and both of them are in the awesome opening song, "Shock." "Edgecrusher," has one of the crunchiest bass riffs I've ever heard, seriously the bass player goes off! "Hi-Tech Hate" and "Freedom or Fire" are definitely the heaviest songs on here, and Burton, the singer, screams his lungs out on these, accompanyed by the brutal riffs the guitarist churns out. Probably, the song "Resurrection," is still my personal favorite, and my God, these guys/director should've won awards for the music video. You gotta see it. This is a must-own for any metal fan!
Excellent
I never liked "extreme" metal enough to buy a CD. Most of the time, i like subtility. The thing with most modern metal bands is that the shock value is there, but past that you have little to listen to; great for headbanging, yet then the novelity fades quickly. Music gets repetitive, and repetitive gets boring. My, was i in for a surprise with this band. "Digimortal", an album most people overlook as commercial had the songs and the production values, "Demanufacture" had the raw power. This one has it all. The songs are great, for starters, and range from death-metal, to industrial to "a-la-Pink Floyd" harmony parts (try "Resurrection" or "Timeless" for a taste of that). The production is very very good, the story is well carried and even the booklet is one of the best i've come arround in a while. Excellent.
If this is not your kind of music, but have and open mind, it's well worth a shot. I can't think of a much better start into modern metal. If you like headbanging, you owe it to yourself.
BEST FF CD SO FAR!!!
This cd blows away demanufacture and the first garbage they came out with called "soul of the new machine". The only reason DIGIMORTAL didn't do that good cause they tried to go back to the same DEMANUFACTURE style.Demanufare was a failer had 3 good tracks including Zero Signal, NEW BREEED and so on.
FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE HARD METAL THIS cd IS A MUST HAVE.
Great Great cd
Where there isnt much more to say that already hasnt been said.Burton has a great voice, goes heavy then goes into a singing voice.such a great cd.every song is good, there is no bad song. this is a cd i could listen to over and over again, and still enjoy
In this futuristic tale, our world has been taken over by the machines we created, but dissenters are bent on undermining the system that has ascended. It's an oft-told tale, and the quartet's ultrafast staccato guitar assaults are familiar, but there are some surprises in evidence on Obsolete. Burton C. Bell no longer just bellows. DJ Zodak scratches up the crunching "Edgecrusher." Drummer Raymond Herrera provides some engaging organic drum & bass mimicry on "Freedom or Fire." And the last two cuts feature a 12-piece string section. Given the aggressive atmosphere of what's come before, it's refreshing that the nihilistic finale consists of simple, mournful vocals; synth noises; and beautifully elegiac strings. --Bryan Reesman
