Mountain High... Valley Low Reviews

Best Laid Out Album I Ever Heard!
Yo's first Elektra album is one the hottest Gospel album's I've ever heard. It also has the best lay out in songs from track 1 to 11 (not to mention the bonus CD-Rom Multimedia!) So let's get this straight, she starts off with some Hip-Hop/R&B typed songs (Time To Change, Yeah - both written by sisters Mary Mary) This then leads into sweet ballads (Fragile Heart, That Name) Then a little uptempo traditional Gospel (In The Midst Of It All) this leads into a beautiful R&B ballad (The Things We Do) After that we hit with some jazzy ballad type song (Open My Heart) Then the party starts with R&B/Hip-Hop (Wherever You Are) Then a lil' Latin typed Reggae song with the vocals Kelly Price as well (He'll Arrive) Clubbish R&B (Continual Praise) and then a beautiful end off with a track that I think is the best to end an album with an midtemp R&B dance track (Already Alright) Well, Yolanda really did it this time, how much hotter could this record get? It's got the styles: R&B, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Blues, Funk, Dance, Traditional, Latin and Reggae. You want more? You must have a MAJOR Problem! God Bless Yolanda!

Yolanda's Music Soars To Great Heights!
"Mountain High, Valley Low" is one of the best pieces of music I've ever heard. Yolanda gives you both contemporary and some traditional flavor. I had the pleasure of interviewing Yolanda on my radio show in Philadelphia. She's gorgeous, humble and truly annointed.

Some of my favorite cuts include "Yeah", and up-tempo energetic and fun song. "That Name" allows Yolanda to really show her vocal range. "In The Midst Of It All" is the ultimate testimonial song. And for you R&B fans there's "Open My Heart". This is a smooth, gorgeous ballad. It reminds you of Luther Vandross' "Love Won't Let Me Wait".

"Mountain High, Valley Low" makes an excellent addition to your CD collection. Give it a listen...Trust me, you'll love it!

Not too pleasing
After Songs from The Heart, I expected more. And this one simply didn't deliver for me. But one of her best songs she has ever recorded, In The Midst of All, can be found on this one. Other than that and maybe and Open My Heart, it's an average album.

Yolanda Really did it on this CD
This young lady is truly talented and has a gift given by God! Mountain High...Valley Low has something for everyone from traditional gospel sounds to , rap, r&b, and jazz flavoring. I'm sure this cd will reach many people and everyone will be able to get their praise on. Yolanda continue to do your thing, you are truly one of a kind!

Words can't describe this cd but I will try...hahaha
I've own this CD since it came out back in 1999 and I have been a fan of Yolanda's before this CD came out. Im just now writing a review for it. Like the title of this review says,"Words can't describe this cd but I will try"...hahaha To start, when I first purchased this I wasn't sure what to expect. Yolanda was on a new label and a major one at that. I must say when I played the first track...I was blown away. The lyrics to "Time to change" included real life situations. This what I liked about the songs on this CD. The songs speak about life's situations and is in line with God's words. The songs spoke to my heart and expressed the way I felt about life. All of the tracks are great. Yeah is another favorite, because it speaks to you the way God wants us to respond to him and that is to say "YEAH". When I first listen to "Open My Heart" I really enjoyed this cut, but I never though in my mind that it would become a mainstream hit, but once it did I took another listen to the cut and I was like "this is good music" with a christian message. This CD has a variety of styles of gospel music on it. The standout tracks for me although I enjoy all the songs are...Yeah, Time to change, things we say, that name, in the mist of it all..Hope you enjoy this CD..Peace
On her major-label debut, accomplished singer Yolanda Adams effortlessly mixes the sounds of deep gospel soul and smooth R&B with contemporary jazz and rap. Not just updating black gospel music, she fearlessly revives it with contemporary music--and not in any hokey way, mind you--and a timeless, unassailably intense spirituality. --Mike McGonigal
Recognized in the last decade as one of modern gospel's seminal voices, Yolanda Adams is clearly poised to take up the torch from foremothers such as Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin with her Elektra debut, Mountain High... Valley Low. Adams brings her music to a wider audience not by watering down her message, but by making a record of supreme power, conviction, and glorious beauty, incorporating elements of traditional gospel, hip-hop, jazz, and R&B into daring arrangements. "The Things We Do" is a gorgeous ballad with samples of JFK and MLK speaking some of their most famous words of commitment. And "Yeah," easily one of 1999's best R&B singles, is a masterfully ebullient song of praise and dedication marrying thick, funky beats with divinely soulful vocals. A bright and shining testament to faith in a higher power, Adams uses her extraordinary vocal prowess to uplift her listeners and to elucidate the pure joy of spiritual and musical flight. She not just crosses but banishes lines of separation. --Paige La Grone
