slipNOT
Ok... people come out and say Mudvayne is a Slipknot ripoff. At first i even thought that they were just trying to cash in on the shock value Slipknot produces. I got the cd anyway, thinking that i'd like Dig and think passable thoughts on the other songs... but man, after i gave the cd a full listen i found so much more! Hey, i like slipknot, but these guys are so much better. One of the best bassists i have ever heard in metal, with great time changes throughout this cd is hard to beat. Kud is an excellent vocalist, and the music is more complex than most of Slipknot's straight ahead metal. Makes it hard to believe
there are only four members sometimes. Very different music, high
on an emotional level and very, very heavy. Saw them on the 2nd stage at ozzfest and i'm thinking they may be headlining next year... they deserve to anyway. Favorites include Dig, Internal Primates Forever, Cradle, and Nothing to Gein, but there isn't one bad song on the cd. Even the interludes are awesome. BUY IT! NOW!
A cd worth buying
Okay, this album rules. It's my favorite album by any band by far. "L.D. 50" follows a theme of evolution throughout the entire album and covers some events that we as people go through in our lifetime. Some events are addiction (internal primates forever), neglect (cradle), rights to suicide - a song about Chad's (KuD) grandmother (death blooms), bad relationships (severed), people who are always acting negative toward you(-1), and then there are some other things thrown into the mix. Like "Nothing to Gein", a song about the grave robber Ed Gein, and a "scary story" of the world coming to an end in "Prod." By far the most interesting lyrics on the album goes to the song "Everything and Nothing," a song that for the most part doesn't make any sense but it comes across as a pretty brilliant song. "(k) Now F (orever)" a song about eternal time, and "Pharmaecopia" which is a book that lists certain drugs (by seeing two songs on this album dealing with drugs you would think that they're a bunch of crazy musicians that have sampled every drug in the book; but they're probably far from that - they were going for the overall theme of addiction and allowing foreign substances to enter your body.) Then we have the two brutal songs in "Dig," a song about people trying to change you and "Under My Skin," a song about people sticking their nose into your business and getting under your skin. From start to finish this album is the best i've ever heard and it's just about 70 minutes long so it's worth it to buy it.Many people compare MuDvAyNe to Slipknot, which is a little unfair since they're both two really different bands and sound nothing alike. Slipknot is also a great band and friends of MuDvAyNe but if you think they sound the same, listen to L.D. 50 and you'll change your mind.
At first listen MuDvAyNe is a hard listen, they even say it themselves. So listen to this album a few times through and read the lyrics because Chad (KuD) writes some really deep lyrics with a lot of emotion and if you ever get the chance to see them live, do it. I saw them three times in one year and they were the best shows i've ever seen.
Mudvayne - L.D. 50
Well, let me start by saying that this is Mudvayne's best CD, hands down. The End of All Things to Come is brilliant in moments, but LD 50 is excellent the whole way through (except for those fillers). This is the thinking man's metal: it was unofficialy labeled "math" metal after the drummer, Matt McDonough, described it as such. He's not kidding, take a look at the tabs book and check out all those wacky time signatures and tempo shifts. In any case, it sounds great, there's no real band to compare these guys to (Slipknot are often mentioned, but they really sound nothing alike). I won't go through and do a song-by-song review (I could write a short novel on this CD), but there are no weak songs here. You can usually find this album for $12 or less, and trust me, it's some of the best money you can spend if you love metal. I'm hoping their next album (due in November 2004) goes back to the roots they established here.
Speechless
When I first heard of Mudvayne and saw their pictures, I thought that they couldn't be good at all. But then I saw the "Dig" music video on Headbanger's Ball and I fell in love with Mudvayne. I immediately went to Tower Records and bought L.D.50. Every single song on this CD will blow you away. Chad has amazing range with his vocal work; Greg writes confusing, yet awesome guitar lines; Ryan is one of the best bassists I've ever heard; Matt's drum lines are confusing and complicated, but he's one of the greatest drummers (in my opinion). Together, these 4 artists produced a work of art. If you haven't bought this CD, buy it right away!
Wow.
Mudvayne is undoubtedly one of the smartest metal bands out there. At first, one may get the impression that they are the stereotypical screamo-death metal band. But upon further listening, L.D. 50 is an outstanding compilation of very deep, complex music. These guys are really incredible musicians; they can pump out earshredding riffs while integrating meter changes and layering in the manner of a symphony orchestra. Listen to the bass and drums on this album: you will be blown away.
