an ecclectic mix of sounds: alt-country, pop, blues
Kai Mera's first release is sure to please any audience. The band does a great job of exploring many forms of American music and the interaction of these forms. To start, the band whips out "Gus"-a Dave Matthews-esque ballad. Next the band hurries into a country twanged dirge about a girl named "Jezabel." From there, they move to straight forward rock 'n' roll with "Rattle My Chains"-the intro to which is very Freddy Jones Band inspired I believe. I could continue down the whole album talking about different styles of music and the various songs but instead I would rather focus on two other aspects: the song writting and the instrumentation. Kai Mera's two song writers do an incredible job of mixing pop lyrics with deep philosophical words. The results are songs which fall somewhere between Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. The band is also equipt with four incredible musicians which adds tremendously to the mix. I suggest this album to an! yone who likes music. The name Kai Mera comes from the Greek form Chimera which is a hybrid creature. The music of this band definitely reflects this.
