ALBUM: Jewelz Lyrics By: O.C. Can't Go Wrong Dangerous Far From Yours Hypocrite It's Only Right Jewelz M.U.G. (Money Under Ground) My World Stronjay The Chosen One The Crow War Games Win the G You And Yours
Jewelz Reviews JEWELZ is a hiphop gem!!! Along with masta ace O.C. has to be 1 of the most under-rated mc's in the game. His flow is faultless, his rhyme style is on point and his lyrical skillz are sharp, PERIOD!! After the intro beat we are truely blessed to savour some of the finest hiphop available for real rap fans. The beats are well above par on this project, unlike the follow up "bon appetit" and the difference is frightening. O.C. masters the tracks with his laid back, yet amped flow's. Unlike the masterpiece debut of "word... ..life" (possibly the greatest underground album ever) where he beat up every joint with a fearsome battle rap delivery, this time around he treats us to a more thought provoking element of his unquestionable skill. My personal breakdown of the album is "my world" (5/5), "war games" (5/5), "cant go wrong" (4/5), "the chosen one" (4/5), "dangerous" (4/5), "win the g" (3/5), "far from yours" (4/5), "stronjay" (5/5), "m.u.g." (4/5), "the crow" (5/5), "you+yours" (3/5), "hypocrite" (4/5), "its only right" (5/5), "jewelz" (5/5). Beats+rhymes for all true hiphop fans!!!Underrated Jewelz isn't as good as Word...Life, but it is a very good album. O.C. is one of the most underrated MC's out there. Check out his nice lines and laid-back flow on "Far From Yours", "The Chosen One", and "My World". The production is also top-notch with great beats by Da Beatminerz, DJ Premier, Show, Ogee, Buckwild, and Lord Finesse. The album isn't flodded with guests allowing O.C. to shine throughout the album. Of the tracks with guests, "M.U.G." with Freddie Foxxx is the best. Big L also come off nicely on "Dangerous", but Organized Konfusion only show up for about thirty seconds on "War Games". I would have like to have seen some verses from Prince Po and Pharoahe. Jewelz is a very good, yet slept-on album that I'd suggest you pick up before it's gone.O.C. - Jewelz Almost ten years after O.C.(Omar Credle) debuted with "Word...Life" (1994) he still remains very much an underground artist. Whenever I hear people talking about slept on MC's, O.C.'s name usually comes up. I think he has maintained this status by always staying real to himself, and while this may not sell records I appreciate it. "Jewelz" (1997) is his second of three albums, his first is another album not to be missed. O.C.'s lyricial ability shines through on this release, production is tight and comes from established producers DJ Premier, Lord Finesse OGEE, Buckwild, Da Beatminerz and the Show. Guest appearances come from MCs I like: Big L (R.I.P.), Organized Konfusion, Freddie Foxxx (Bumpy Knuckles). After intro, DJ Premier produced "It's My World" starts things off very strong, O.C. spits ill verse after verse, backed by an eerie beat to remember. Next comes the Piano thumping "War Games", which is followed up with a deep tribute by O.C. to his wife on "Can't Go Wrong", and a surreal representation of himself on "Chosen One". "Dangerous" feat. Big L and "Win the G" feat. Freddie Foxxx are solid collabrations, both these artists are similar to O.C. in a way, in that they may never blow up but have definite underground followings. Big L only became more known to the mainstream after his death. "Far from Yours" feat. Yvette Michele is a relaxed Rap/R&B collab which works, I like the storytelling at the end of this track. Freddie Foxxx makes another good appearance on "M.U.G." and O.C. follows through with more memorable tracks , two that really standout for me include the dedication track "You and Yours" and the albums closer the title track "Jewelz". This album gets five stars from me as I get alot of enjoyment from listening to it and still listen to it alot many years later. O.C. is a talented & underated lyricist, who has a memorable flow and "Jewelz" is definetly an album to have if you enjoy O.C.'s music like I do.Ruff or Smooth as the ocean-straight Jewelz ,Cop It ASAP I bought this LP in '97 when it first dropped and just recopped it in 2002(my original was jacked by some punk and if ur readin give it back). I boughtit(in 97) after I heard "Word...Life" @ one of my homeboys basement jamz. This Lp isnt just Tight lyrics, smooth metaphors, street tales woven with knowledge, it also packs beats from some of New Yorks best(remember this came out during hiphops golden age)including DJ Premier,Buckwild(DITC),OGee(DITC affiliate),Lord Finesse(DITC),Da Beatminerz, and MR Dave.It also fetures few but excellent guest spots, not that O couldnt hold the whole lp himself, he just anted to let summa da homiez shine. Big L,Freddie Foxxx(doin 2 joints 1 as Foxxx the other as Bumpy Knuckles),Organized Konfusion, and Yvette Michelle. The joints to check 4 are "Far From Yourz","M.U.G.","Win The G","You and Yours","My World",and "Jewelz" but it goes without sayin u wont find a weak moment on this Lp. Defintely cop it if u can find it if not get a store to special order it or even get here from CDnow, whatever way u can just be glad Polygram still presses this Gem... i mean Jewel!! Also check out "Word...Life" which u deffinitely will have a hard time finding since Its Out Of Print- Wild Pitch went under in like 1994 and EMI(Capitol records) and Wild Pith sold the entire catalog to Jcor(a sub label of Interscope/Universal)in 2001 and then a year or less later Jcor went under and Universal discontinued presing the Wild Pitch catalog. Look at Used CD/LP Stores,Flea Markets,Swap Meets,Yard Sales anywhere. If Ur a rich boy or just a die hard hiphop junkie you can cop the Import version(with 2 bonus cuts and both of the 2 covers the original and reissue prints) for like $..., anyway cop it,steal it,borrow it. play it, play it again, and love it. The same goes for Jewelz.THE BEST OF THE BEST This is one of the best hip-hop cds out, its beats are real solid and just makes you wanna nod your head.
