Ignition Reviews

Great CD though not my favorite of the Offspring
I dont really like most of the self titled CD so for me, Ignition is where it all started. This is there first really good CD though i personally prefer Ixnay on the Hombray and Smash. Here's a breakdown of the tracks

-Session 9/10. Good song. Some of the guitar lines are quite good and in general the song maintains a strong force to it.

-We are One 8/10. I like the intro guitar part alot but i think the bulk of the song is just shy of spectacular. Its still a good song though and i think the complete stop after the word "stop" is a nice touch.

-Kick Him while he's Down 9/10. A good song though i dislike that the lyrics are almost inaudible.

-Take it like a man 8/10. Another good one.

-Get it Right 6/10. Its a decent song but it just lacks energy.

-Dirty Magic 8/10. Slower song, with sad sounding melodies and lytics. Overall a good song.

-Hypodermic 10/10. My favorite song on the CD, especially right at the great guitar part at the beginning. An energetic and fastpaced song.

-Burn it Up 9/10. A song for the pyro in each of us, Burn it up is about torching cars and hurling molotovs. A good song.

-No Hero 8/10. A well constructed bass line forms the melody of this song. Not a superb song but still rather good.

-LAPD 6/10. Im not a big fan of this song. I like the slow buildup in the begining and the general oppressiveness of the song but passed that the song is a bit lacking.

-Nothing from Something 7/10. Good but not great, this song is about prepping to lash out at others.

-Forever and a Day 8/10. It has some nice bass playing and is in general a good song.

In summary, I think Ignition is a good CD but i think their next two, Smash and Ixnay, are better. Ignition is better than the two most recent Offspring albums, Americana and Conspiracy of One.

The essence of punk is all here!
~This record is a typical example of Offspring's older stuff, it's also their major label debut. The Offspring truly demonstrates "Orange County Punk Rock" here, notice how different they sound back then? The vocals even had a weird accent but still had a whiney voice back then.
Standout tracks on this cd include "Hypodermic" "No Hero" and "Nothing From Something", basically all the songs are good but they sound too similar, that's what is preventing me from giving this record 5~~ stars. The overall sound in each song may not be as polished as the more recent albums, but their work can only get better with experience and time. Listen to samples from "Americana" "Conspiracy Of One" and "Splinter"(newest), all are recent albums from Offspring, then you'll know how big a difference there is, the difference is so big that it's like two separated worlds they've been in.
In my opinion, i like both worlds, meaning i liked their older music and their newer music.~~ This is an album truly not to be missed, get it!~

nicccccccccccccccccccccccce
this is a truly awesome cd. offspring's true punk rock vocals and drums and guitars. there are some awesome lyrics and are very catchy like l.a.p.d (extreamly catchy and hilarious.) But if your parents have a problem with explixit lyrics then dont let them lissen to it because it starts out with fu** fu** fu** fuuuuuuuuu**. lol sill great cd not my fave thoe i sugjest Amaricana. happy lissening

Good, but not the best
Ignition is a solid album, but isn't quite as good as their self-titled debut. Ignition, while it really isn't a punk album, is still a pretty good CD, but I recommend picking up their self-titled CD as well if your looking for the Offspring at their best. Smash and Ixnay are pretty good also, but stay away from anything after that(...)

classic punk
I've been an Offspring fan for several years, but I just recently purchased this album. I had hesitated to buy it at first, because a friend of mine, also an Offspring fan, had told me it wasn't very good. I downloaded the song "Session" and liked it, so I bought the album. Boy was I surprised. The music was excellent. It reminded me of the classic sounds that had made Smash such a hit. If you like classic, hardcore punk, this is the album for you.
It seems like the terms catchy and punk shouldn't go together, but for the Offspring, they do. Listening to Ignition, one gets the sense of rage tightly controlled, powering the band's uptempo, driving material. While their sensibility is firmly punk, the Offspring have clearly borrowed from heavy metal for their chord progressions and guitar sound--check out the solos on "Nothing from Something" and "Forever and a Day." While this album didn't have the major-label success of its follow-up, Smash, all the ingredients that made that record a hit are here, if not quite as refined: angry, incisive lyrics; fast-driving rhythms; and--dare one say it--melodic chord progressions. It's easy to hear why Ignition was an underground hit and why the Offspring's later records, while somewhat diluted, have been so successful. --Genevieve Williams
