Moving Lyrics, Great Music...
I've been listening to Michael Tolcher for several months, having first heard him live at a show with my step-daughter and wife up in Nashville where he was playing with Gavin DeGraw. While Gavin was good, Michael was great. He put on quite a show, but let's talk about the album. The three songs that most have heard are Bad Habits, Sooner or Later, and Mission Responsible, which you can listen to on his web site www.michaeltolcher.com. All have excellent lyrics, with him often taking one side, then another side of a position, sort of as a devils advocate, or maybe he's just teasing us, either way, with these three tunes, I worried that they might be the cream of the crop... No chance. I'd divide the other tunes on the CD into heady ones, like "I Am," with its great opening bass line and springy beat, a couple of "summer" tunes, "Kiss and Tell" and "Taxi Ride" that make one want to take down the top of the car and drive on a sunny day, and soulful, thoughtful songs like "The Sun Song" and "This is What I Meant By That."
Debut CD's are sometimes tough to gauge, but I gotta tell you, I'm in my fifties, I've played this CD for folks from 18 to 65 and I haven't found anyone who doesn't like it. I'd be concerned that he might be like a comet and burn too bright, too soon, but I've heard some of his other songs during the Virgin Store Tour, and he's got enough for another album right now!
Finally, everyone will be able to hear what I've enjoyed for several months. Michael... you're a "King in your Castle."
What a great find!
I first learned about Michael Tolcher at the Gavin Degraw concert (if you haven't been, get tickets!) Basically, Michael is opening for Gavin, but really, it's two concerts for the price of one. I bought his CD at the concert (spending some of my parents money) and while it doesn't do complete justice to seeing him in person, it's an amazing CD! The Sun Song makes me cry every time I hear it, because it's so inspirational, about just trying to get through the day. In concert, he had an all-black band with him, and the four of them were just a big family up on stage. They all love what they're doing, and it shows. He is a talented artist, and the best advice I can give you is see him in concert, and buy the CD there, it's cheaper there and you can get it signed!
WOWWWWWWWWWWWW!
This is my new favorite singer...he has an amazing voice and his songs are catchy and AWESOME! JUst try it, you will not be disappointed.

The time has come
I Am is an album to have in any music fans collection. Songs like Bad Habits and Kings In Castles are even more wonderful live,so if you have the chance to see him...TAKE IT!
There are great tracks like Taxi Ride Kinda Night that are fun and funky, but every song on the album is worth it's weight in gold. This is a CD you can listen to front to back, and back to front and not get tired of it.The time has come to make way for Michael Tolcher a wonderful singer and song writer.
For fans of Gavin DeGraw, Maroon 5, Jason Mraz, and John Mayer.
