Kandi does well after her Xscape from the group
I was hesitant to buy this CD at first, although I like the work that Kandi and her partner in music, Kevin "She'kspere" Briggs have put in with TLC, Destiny's Child, Faith Evans, Joe, etc. When I saw reviews from "Tony" and "I.B." I decided that I should take a chance. "Hey Kandi" is an impressive debut CD from Kandi, formerly of the group Xscape. The music is on point at all times and Kandi has a good presentation going on with all of her songs. The problem? Is the subject matter. With all the success that they have had with their past songs, you think Kandi and "She'kspere" would want to try a different subject matter. "What I'm Gon' Do To You", "Don't Think I'm Not", "Pants On Fire", "Can't Come Back", "Cheatin' On Me", after a few songs you get the point. Don't get me wrong, this is a tight CD. My personal favorite song is "Just So You Know", where Kandi reminds us of Xscape's slow jams of the past like "Understanding" and "Do You Want To". Other gems are "Hey Kandi", "Easier" w/Faith Evans, the 1st single "Don't Think I'm Not", and "Cheatin' On Me". If you like Kandi's days with Xscape then you will enjoy this CD. She just needs to change up the topics a little more the next time around.
Disappointed!
I'll tell you why. After hearing the amazing smash hits Kandi wrote for TLC ("No Scrubs"), Pink ("There You Go") and Destiny's Child ("Bills, Bills, Bills"), I thought that her debut album would be perfect. But I was wrong. Kandi's voice is just not suited for today's modern female R&B, which is full of edgy lyrics, hip-hop beats and confident posing. So she instead focuses on classic southern soul, traces of which are heavy in her only hit "Don't Think I'm Not." That song is the standout track on here, and it isn't even that good. It has too much of an old-school feel. I also thought "Hey Kandi" and "Sucka For You" were catchy, and "Easier" was a smooth duet with Faith Evans, but there's no obvious hits on this entire CD. If you want good R&B go with TLC, Pink, and Destiny's Child's albums. I'm waiting on Kandi's next one.
what kind of R
i was a HUGE fan of xscape. i fell in LOVE with tiny with the song "do you want to." first let me say something GOOD about kandi, she can SING. she has an EXCELLENT voice, however, she puts this excellent voice to go to WASTE!!! She gives R&B a bad name!!!! "dont think im not" ? what kind of lyrics is that for an r&b song!~ r&b is supposed to be about LOVE and for DECENT people! i mean come on! u dont hear no one trying to RAP an entire love song!!! thats why the ONLY music group of the now (2002 - and up) is jagged edge. artists like her, ruined the whole r&b style. and not all guys are the way she preceives any guy. artists like her, usher, tlc, etc. make all guys in the world look bad. and not all guys do the same things. in fact, we are all different

B sh**tty album is THIS???
All I have to say is this CD was one of the most underated CD's that has come out in awhile. Kandi sometimes is looked over for her writing and with this album she was overlooked for her singing talent.
The album starts off with the intro that is clearly meant to let everyone know that she knew that this CD would be highly reviewed and was expecting some not to like it or doubt her ability. After one listen to this album I don't know why.
2. Hey Kandi-talks about Kandi not leaving her man no matter what her girls say. This serves as that song to the people that Call Kandi and male basher.(5/5)
3. Cheatin On Me- an ok song and not a good second single but does show Kandi in a less pop arena.(4/5)
4. What I'm Gonna Do- A song that tells what love can do when you make a person furious. would have been a good song with Left Eye in the video. (3/5)
5. Don't Think I'm Not- Good single that tells woman can do whatever a man can do.(5/5)
6. Pants on Fire-different kiddie vibe song but still good(3/5)
7. Can't Come Back- A song that lets everyone know Ms. Kandi can sing as if you would doubt.(5/5)
8. I Wanna Know-Tells the man she wants to know about his life and everything of his past so there will not be any secrets later.(5/5)
9. Talking Bout Me- song that reminds me Just Kickin from Xscape(3/5)
10. Sucka For You- Ok song that just gives the album a easy pop break.(4/5)
11. Won't Bite My Tongue. The girl will not bite her tongue if you didn't know you know by now.(4/5)
12. Just So YOu KNow- would have been a great single for her shows her vocal ability somewhat and tells them she can be in love.(5/5)
13. Easier- Great ballad about lost loved one that anyone can relate to would have been a great single also. ONe of best songs on album.(5/5)
14. Outro- If you still doubt hey the album showed you.
This girl has written for everyone B2k, LSG, Alicia Keys, Samantha Mumba, Tommi, Mariah, Whitney, TLC, Destiny's Child, Zena, Lene, Boyz II Men, Gangsta Boo, Isyss, Nsync, Blu Cantrell,Cherish,Sole, Usher, Ginuwine, Monica, and many more. I highly suggest this album and any future albums from her she is on point.
The girl group Xscape could sing their butts off and went gold, but they never quite crossed over to mainstream (read: white) audiences. Relegated to ghetto goddess status, Xscape hung up their weaves a few years ago, and each member is now doing her own thang. Chief among them is Kandi Burruss. If the name doesn't ring a bell, Kandi's songs--which include "No Scrubs," "Bills, Bills, Bills" and a host of other smoking-hot, chart-topping collabos with She'kspere--will. They have made her a Grammy-winning, platinum-selling, in-demand writer. Fortunately, as evidenced by her solo debut, Kandi didn't sell all the good stuff. She has a clear, powerful voice that has a welcoming tone even when she's delivering songs that range from "my man done been cheating on me" rump shakers to "my man done been cheating on me" ballads. Yes, her thematic POV is a bit limited, but does that make the finger-wagging glee of "Don't Think I'm Not" any less delicious? Listening in on Kandi's soap opera world can feel like a guilty pleasure at times, and her conversational style matched to She'kspere's shake 'n' bake beats is not great art. But it's good fun. --Amy Linden
