A sure bet
I discovered that album while in Switzerland in 1995. The band was then named "The Choice" and I got really hooked to their songs. Great music, great lyrics and the incredible voice of Sarah Bethens. One of the rare albums where almost all the songs are good.
Subconsciously Infective
Every word Sarah Bettens utters is enough to make you wonder how someone from Belgium would ever have such a wonderful grasp for writing in english. Everything is said so well by their lyrics that you will find yourself thinking of their songs in the most outrageous situations. "My Heart" is the most beautiful song i have ever heard, and the rest of the album minus "I will Return to You" will keep you entertained. This is a musically toned down version of their newer cd's, and if you want to get to know the band through their music, this is the way to do it. I have all 4 of their true albums and this holds it's own, and is one of the best albums to relax to of all 200 i have.
Calm and intimate featuring great lyrics and Sarah's voice
I discovered this album only after being an avid K's Choice listener for quite a while. «The Great Subconscious Club» is K's Choice's debut album, back from the time the band was still a small Belgium based act named «The Choice».If you've heard the band's following albums, you'll probably notice a natural evolution, with this record being the less mature of them all. Nevertheless, the Betten brothers made their first album work like a charm, with remarkable lyrics that could easily go into a poetry book and the Sarah Betten's voice being as great as always. Calm and beautifully heart-felt songs like «My Heart» or «Winter» contrast with the light and melodic song that would be perfect played by the fire, «Breakfast». This mix of slow and instrospective songs with funnier and more rocky tunes mark the band's roots and are noticeable in their following albums.
I will rate it 4* since i believed that K's Choice improved from album to album - with each one being better than the previous - and i'll be keeping the top rating for those.
For you who haven't buy any K's choice album yet
Well, all I gotta say is that the preicieding reviews should have been written by fans. As a... let's say "neutral" fan, this album though pretty good shouldn't be rated 5 stars. For me "Paradise in Me" is way better and it contains the hit "Not an Addict". If you still don't have it , let's buy this one first. "The great subconscious club" is more intimate and calm like the first Cranberries album "Everybody else is doing it so why can't we".
I have this cover in a frame, on a wall!
When I met K's Choice, I needed something for them to sign. I did not have thier first album at the time, so I went and bought it and they signed it! I LOVE this album... along with the rest... because it's their first... it's a must have for TRUE K's Choice fans... Buy it! You won't be disappointed!
