this album is just cool. that's the one word that came to my mind asfter i listened to it the first time. i think it might be the best pantera album of all time. it's their heaviest, softest, and most groove-oriented album by far. here's a track by track overview.the great southern trendkill-10/10 probably the heaviest track. amazing vocals and musicianship.
war nerve-10/10 they're attack on the judgemental, pathetic media of today. another mega-heavy song.
drag the waters-9.5/10 great song overall. i love the cowbell!
10's-10/10 10's gets a 10. it's probably th softest song on the album, yets it's heavy as TGST. it's kinda hard to explain. definitely onre of the most meaningful and emotional songs.
13 steps to nowhere-9/10 great heavy track to just go crazy on.
suicide note pt. 1 and pt. 2-10/10 i know these are two different songs but the power of these two songs together is just amazing. from the acoustic heaviness of pt. 1 to the electric insanity of pt. 2. it also has a great message.
living through me(hell's wrath)-7.5/10 probably my least favorite song on the album, but nonetheless kills everything else.
floods-10/10 great guitar and vocals on this song. i love how it's so laid back and relaxed.
underground in america-10/10 this song just sounds evil! in a good way of course. great double bass work from vinnie.
sandblasted skin(reprise)-9/10 the lyrics of this song are a reprise of TGST, but it has the same guitar riff as underground in america. i love how at the end it fades out, then like 2 minutes later, it fades back in for an encore.
overall, buy it. now. seriously. now
the great southern album
In a time of weak p*ssy trends that dominate the music market, Pantera come back unscarred and unaffected with their most overlooked and underated album of all time The Great Southern Trendkill. On this album Phil Anselmo and Co. continue to stay true to their metal roots. Experimentation is within this album, from slow jam headbanging, to acidic guitars, to death metal riffs. The title track begins with an angry Phil screaming along Dimebag Darrell's charging riffs, and the speeding rhythm section of Rex Brown and Vinnie Paul. War Nerve has Phil madly raving against the media like a mad street preacher. Other great songs include Drag The Waters (my personal favorite), Floods, Suicide Notes 1 and 2, 10's, and Sandblasted Skin. Pantera rules, buy this album now.
Pantera's fourth Album (note this review is 4.5 stars not just 4)
The Great Southern Trendkill is just a completly brutal album. This is unarguably Pantera's heaviest album. They took thier brutality to a new level just like the albums before this. At first you may be a little turned off by TGSTK attitude of being heavy for the sake of being heavy. However with all good albums most bad first impressions should fade quickly to unveil the masterpiece within. Highlights Include; The title track, Drag The Waters and Floods.
how the hell can you people stand this album? i can't go thru all whatever 14 10 11 how many songs on here without shutting it off.ive given it many tries. pantera just went to chaotic , this is a bunch of noise. there is no talent on here and his vocals suck ass . the riffs are used over and over, my god why does this album get 100 5 star's and cowboys/vulgar get 1 stars!??! wtf i guess cuz people cant listen to the whole thing so they never review it. im a big pantera fan but to me this album is just garbage. the lyrics are stupid. id listen to far beyond driven any time before ever giving this album a chance. exhorder did a better job of being heavy and atlest they sounded good. i can't believe within 8 years what pantera did...
power metal- good glam/speed metal
cowboys from hell- good thrash metal
vulgar display- very good heavy metal
far beyond driven- somewhat decent metal
great southern- horrible noise
all of phils side projects suck, damage plan sucks, down, superjoin, all those suck. why couldnt he make pantera heavier.. but at the same time better? too late now pantera died in 1994 as well as megadeth metallica and all those other great bands
TRENDKILLING MACHINE
I've been a Pantera fan for years, and this CD still kicks ass, Far Beyond Driven and this are the best ones, BUY IT!
