The Police's most wonderful accomplishments!
The Police briefly reunited to record a remake of their 1980 or '81 hit,DON'T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME,entitled DON'T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME '86. The 1986 recording is very different from the original,of course. A different key,a different rhythm and slightly altered music. The other 11 tracks were previously released on the band's five previous albums,released between 1978 and 1983. The original version of DSSCTM does not appear on this compilation. Oddly,this compilation is entitled EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE-THE SINGLES. I don't know whose idea that was although "Greatest Hits" and "best of" are too common. "The Singles",by itself,would have been sufficient. It was the same way with Dire Straits' MONEY FOR NOTHING compilation. Sting co-wrote MFN with Dire Straits' frontman Mark Knopfler. Subsequently,Sting carried on with his solo career and Stewart Copeland wrote music for the movies SEE NO EVIL,HEAR NO EVIL and TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS. Several years later,this compilation would be revised with more tracks and a different design. The Police were one of the greatest musical acts ever signed to the label founded by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss. When The Police debuted in 1978,their A&M labelmates Peter Frampton,Rita Coolidge,Styx,and The Captain & Tennille were making hit records.
