it's not keaseby nights...or even alone in a crowd, so what?
well, i got this cd last night, i had low expectations, because after seeing them play the songs from this album live, i had assumed that they sounded more like weezer with trumpets (which is not neccessarily a bad thing if it's done right). but this cd blew me away! i understand that the main complaint of catch-22's audience is that they don't sound like they did on keaseby nights anymore (hell, they don't even play "as the footsteps fade away forever" at shows), but ya know what, if ya want keaseby nights style stuff, buy the streetlight manifesto cd! having said that, i kinda like catch-22's new direction, alot of this cd sounds really metallic (yea, i mean some of it sounds like iron maiden with trumpets, which is really, really cool). sure there is less focus on ska on this cd, but in the end, it's still good music!
Extremely UNDERRATED...
Forget Keasbey Nights, forget Alone In A Crowd... This is neither of those, and thats what makes Dinosaur Sounds such an amazing album... With it's incredibly catchy horns, metalriffic guitars, pounding percussion and brain-tingling lyrics, Dinosaur Sounds strays from the sound of the Jersey boys past albums... One of my favorite things about this CD is the production and sound quality which is impeccable.
Highlight tracks on a CD full of brilliant songs: Dreams of Venus, Good Times, Motown Cinderella and Dripping Faucet. If you're a ska fan (and if you loved Reel Big Fish's "Cheer Up") or even if you havent found your ska vein yet, this CD is a keeper...
Pretty good
Just picked it up last night. The horn parts are really great, too bad there is not as much of them on this CD. A lot more punk rock on this CD, but it is still great. The songs really get great right after the secret track, which jumps right into So Cold, which is great, Lamont's Lament remains my favorite. Dinosaur Sounds could have been better, but Catch 22 proves that Ska is not dead!
.......Catch twenty-two...Shame on you!
...ok i have been a fan for catch 22 for a long time. I have Keasby and Alone in a crowd..so i picked up this CD. I liked it for about 1 day. I cant stand the repitiveness of the Rocky Lyrics. Every Horn line seems to be in the same key. I learned to play every song without a tab on my trombone in 3 days. It took me 1 1/2 weeks to figure out the keasby stuff. The Only Songs i kind of enjoyed were MoTown Cinderella and Lemont's Lament..thats about it. This band sounds so incredibly worthless without Thomas Kalnoky. If you want a good CD..then buy Keasby Nights, "Everything Goes Numb" by Streetlight Manifesto(Tom K.'s latest band..they have a very keasby-esque quality), or burn, or if your VERY LUCKY get a copy of Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution's "A Call To Arms" EP. The EP is hand made and really rare...but the songs are found all over the internet. This is another of Tom K.'s Projects.
Dinosaur Sounds is a very dissappointing CD..and if ur a fan of Mainstream Punk Rock...then pick this up...but if ur a fan of real good ska music..pick this up..and smash it with a hammer
If you forget....
Take a second and forget about Keasby Nights. Go back and listen to this cd. Its not bad. Kind of GOOD. I wont rate it a 4, its not amazing. But it passes. I just got a chance to see Catch at the Ska is Dead tour. I was pleased. They played On and On and On......really made me think "wow these guys are getting back". Or maybe it was because they played AFTER Big D and the Kids Table, who was less then steller that night.
It has been three long years since the release of Catch 22s sophomore effort "Alone in a Crowd". The anticipation has been building. Prepare yourself. Catch 22 are back with 11 songs of inspiration and realization, about growing up, loving, losing, hating, and, of course, drinking. Combining influences ranging from punk, soul, ska, metal, Motown, and hardcore, Catch 22 have written an explosive follow-up to "Alone". DINOSAUR SOUNDS is energetic and pop-driven with catchy choruses, explosive horn hooks and uplifting chord progressions. Their influences shine through on this album, ranging anywhere from Sublime to Weezer to James Brown, creating some of their best material to date. DINOSAUR SOUNDS is an album destined to be a classic.
