Border Girl Reviews

Crossing over
Paulina Rubio attempts to cross over with her first English CD BORDER GIRL. She attempts to take over as Shakira has but that's where the similarities end. Shakira has more of a rock edge and Paulina leans more toward pop/dance music. BORDER GIRL is the perfect summer release. As soon as I heard "don't say goodbye" I was hooked. It's such a sexy, throbbing dance track. Paulina's voice is not the best for range but her somewhat raspy purrs entrances each track.

BORDER GIRL is the perfect blend of dance, pop, and latin. The songs on here are really easy to get into. Heavy on the hooks and solid on the grooves. She screams "touch me now!" on the sexy "casanova". It also has a few sunny pop/rock moments with "border girl", "the one you love", and "not that kind of girl". Paulina gets really sexy on "I'll be right here (sexual lover)" and "fire (sexy dance)". Both offer pulsating beats and sexy/fantasy-like lyrics.

Paulina Rubio is a party girl and it's really evident throughout this CD. It's fun, fun and more fun. She should however stay away from ballads like "undeniable". That's probably the only dud on this otherwise high energy CD. BORDER GIRL is an awesome up-beat, summer fun CD. Her cover of "I was made for loving you" and the R&B, J.Lo-esque "stereo" are also standouts.

BORDER GIRL also includes Spanish versions of 4 tracks. This CD is a good variety of well crafted pop songs. There's something for everyone here.

Someone felt sorry for Rubio
Since I've been alive, Rubio has always been there. I won't deny it: she has some good songs as reflected by "Planeta Paulina" , the self-titled "Paulina" as well as "El tiempo es oro". She has enough material to put two greatest hits cd's together, as oppossed to her rival Thalia. Nevertheless, this production has not much to offer. My attention went to "Si tu te vas", and "Baila casanova", but the rest was indistinct due to her heavy accent which almost sounded like my Mexican physics teacher. The lyrics are absurd and there are just to many songs like these on this cd. In the battle of who can speak with the least accent, Rubio loses to Shakira, Thalia, and Laura Pausini. She just can't sing in English. She will never surpass her "Paulina" cd, as most of these songs are unmemorable. Joey Guerra, Amazon's reviewer for this album is really a fan of this girl or feels sorry for her , because despite this horrible production, he praises it with "terrific hooks" and "border music never sounded so savvy." She is another mediocre artist forgotten by the American audience and readopted by Mexico. All in all, this is a dull waste of your money.

border girl UGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
paulina has crossed a border too many. Her english is bad and i could hear it in every single word she was even off key in many songs of hers. some beats were nice beat but there should be no singing unless its in spanish which i think she shold jsut quit singing but as for english i think we are looking forward to shakira and gloria estefan maybe thalia who has more talent in acting , dancing and singing but paulina sorry work on your english and music skills and please refund me my money .

wowwwww

Border Girl FAILS to Cross the Border!!!
Her weak yet Dull voice is the reason why this Album was a Flop. GOOD THING I DID NOT BUY IT. The first single was Catchy, but the rest of the Cd is BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. DONT BUY THIS. HER GOOD LOOKS MIGHT TRICK YOU, but dont be fooled by the LACKS that she's got.
Shakira may have been the first Latina to don the contemporary crossover crown, but Mexican golden girl Paulina Rubio's first English-language effort outshines the pop competition in any language. Border Girl follows Rubio's spectacularly successful Paulina, the No. 1 Latin album of 2001. Like that collection, Border Girl blends terrific hooks, sing-along choruses, seductive rhythms, and lots of energy--essential elements for any great pop album. "Don't Say Goodbye," the hypnotic first single, is a good introduction for American audiences, and Rubio even pulls off a sly cover of the Kiss hit "I Was Made for Lovin' You." Even better are the glittering girl-power anthems translated from Spanish to English, including "Not That Kind of Girl," the pulsing club gem "Sexual Lover," and "The Last Goodbye," an innovative, I-will-survive testimonial that blends ranchera and hip-hop instrumentation. Border music has never sounded so savvy--or sensational. --Joey Guerra
